DESTINY: WHEN TO ACCEPT AND WHEN TO CHALLENGE

DESTINY: WHEN TO ACCEPT AND WHEN TO CHALLENGE
Destiny is often understood as something already written for us, beyond our control. But is life entirely governed by destiny, or do our thoughts, choices and actions also shape its course? Perhaps the truth lies somewhere between the two. We may not always choose what happens to us, but we certainly have a choice in how we respond. Every sincere effort, positive thought and good deed contributes towards shaping our future. In that sense, we do not merely inherit our destiny; we also participate in creating it.
Yet life does not always unfold as we hope, despite our best efforts. An opportunity slips away, a relationship breaks, or circumstances suddenly change beyond our control. At such moments, endlessly questioning fate or resisting what cannot be changed only adds to our distress. A sailor cannot command the wind, but he can adjust his sails and navigate the storm. Acceptance in such circumstances is not weakness; it is wisdom. It allows us to conserve our energies, find our balance and discover possibilities in situations we never sought.
At the same time, acceptance should never be confused with helplessness or surrender. Some people leave everything to destiny, making little effort to change their circumstances and waiting for life to deliver whatever is meant for them. But a farmer cannot expect a harvest without preparing the soil and sowing the seeds, merely because the final outcome is beyond his control. Destiny cannot become an excuse for inaction or an escape from responsibility.
The real wisdom lies in knowing when to challenge destiny and when to flow with it. If a difficulty can be overcome, an injustice corrected or an opportunity pursued, we must act with courage and determination. But when we have made our best efforts and the outcome remains beyond our control, acceptance becomes the wiser course. Perhaps this is the true art of living: to have the courage to change what we can, the patience to accept what we cannot, and the wisdom to recognise the difference.
After all, we may not have the power to decide every turn of life’s journey, but we do have the power to decide how we travel through it—with effort, courage and, when necessary, graceful acceptance.
